Many people wonder how much a lawyer is paid. Well what i can tell you is that it is definitely a high paying job! Even when you start working, you are paid a lot more than in other jobs!

Several factors need to be taken into consideration when talking about how much a lawyer earns. The domain in which you work has an impact (criminal lawyers, personal injury lawyers ...) but also for what type of firm you work. The town in which you work can also have an impact on your salary (Chicago lawyers are well paid for example). The average salary is probably around $90,000 to $100,000 a year. When you start expect being paid between $60,000 and $80,000 then progressively you will get higher earnings which will reach up to $150,000 which is good!

Overal you can see that a lawyer's earning. Nevertheless it is a very demanding job, which requires difficult studies and a lot of reading, learning, pressure and work!

How to Become a Lawyer Without a Law School

In one of my previous posts i have explained how to become a lawyer using the regular academic process. I actually thought that this was obligatory in order to become a lawyer. When surfing online the other day, i fell on article where it explains that it is actually possible to become a lawyer without a law school. I was at first sceptical, but from what i read and have found out it is legit way to become one, so i decided to share with you the process.

First of all what you must know is that not all states offer this possibility. The information i will provide comes from Michael P. Ehline who managed to become a Los Angeles personal injury attorney without doing a law school. In fact in California, there are apparently only 64 people who have become attorneys using this method. Michael passed the Baby Bar Exam without having any higher education and passed the General Bar Exam without a law degree from a law school. The program which allows this in California is called the Law Office Study Program (LOSP). Doing this program is not easy but doable.

During the LOSP program, you will be working in a law firm with supervising attorneys who will teach you law in the office. Also you will have law attorneys and teachers helping you study for the Baby Bar Exam and the California General Bar Exam. Basically, you are followed by professionals who will help you learn the key elements of law in depth. All in all this method is a good alternative to the ABA traditional way, even though it might seem a bit more difficult to achieve.

Here is a list of States in the US which apparently offer this study program: California, Maine, New York, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wyoming. The name of the study program varies also depending on your state.

How to Become a Lawyer

You want to know how to become a lawyer? Here are the steps and education needed to become a real lawyer!

1) Your first need to have a degree in law. For this follow a 4 year undergraduate college course, and try to get a high GPA, grade point average. To differentiate yourself from other students, getting involved in extracurricular activities is a good solution.

2) Study hard and take the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) exam which is necessary to get admitted into a good law school. Read many books to increase your knowledge, and watch videos (youtube for example is a good source), listen to audio files tand tapes. The grade you have at this test will determine your admission and in which school you will be admitted.

3) Apply to several law schools. It is recommend to apply to at least 5 different law schools, as you may not always get admitted to each college you have applied to tough competition. Make sure the law school you have applied to is correctly recognized by law firms.

4) Do well during your extra three year law course at your university or law school. As previously said, do extra activities, or get involved in associations to get some extracurriculars elements to put on your resume. Doing summer Internships is also a very good idea as it will allow recruiters to see on your resume that you already have experience and this will therefore increase your changes of being taken in a company.

5) Choose a specialty in Law (this is very important). Close to the end of your graduation, you should recieve a Juris Doctor Degree which will allow you to become a lawyer.

6) Finally pass an exam which is called the BAR exam for your state. Try and have a good grade as it will be on your resume.

7) Prepare and work on your resume to make it clear and attractive. You are now a lawyer!

So what are lawyers? What do they do? Lawyers are in fact professionals who are specialized in law and have clients that come to them to defend them in a an issue which is law related. often in a law suit, two parties are involved. In some cases it can even be three or four.

Why does a client pay for a lawyer? Well generally, the client has little knowledge about law and is inexperienced in how it works. He therefore hires a lawyer to defend him during the court process. This lwayer will know all about law and the rights of the client. The lawyer will help the client, and if he is really innocent he may find justice thanks to the lawyer. Basically, this is the job of a lawyer.

Different sorts of lawyers exist. For example, DUI lawayers, Criminal Lawyers, Medical Lawyers... each specialized in a particular domain. Depending in the sector they are specialized, and depending on the difficulty and complexity of the court process the lawyer pay will increase. Different methods exist to become a lawyer.
